Centennial Library has served the Toronto community for nearly 60 years and is one of the most well-used branches in the Toronto Public Library (TPL) system. It’s being completely rebuilt on the same site and will become TPL’s first net-zero branch.
Our Toronto team is expanding the original footprint from 7,000 to 15,000 sq. ft. and adding a large outdoor plaza designed for community gatherings. The new layout introduces flexible spaces for programming, meetings, quiet study, and collaboration. Dedicated zones for adults, children, and teens will be expanded, along with more washrooms, an outdoor courtyard, and upgraded staff areas.
Sustainability features include passive design strategies, a high-performance envelope, natural ventilation and daylighting, and mechanical systems sized to reduce energy use. A heat pump system and geothermal field will also be integrated to further lower energy demand.
