Cineplex's first Rec Room inside West Edmonton Mall features more than 100 games, a bowling alley, axe throwing, and a first-of-its-kind race car simulator. The 70,000 square-foot facility also houses three restaurants — one of which includes Canada's largest wood-fired grill — and two live entertainment stages.
Our national special services group (SSG) upgraded the space and created new access into the mall. Our work included demolition of an old Mark's Work Warehouse and expansion of the second floor.
Some challenges that we faced included limited access to the site. This prompted us to have all deliveries come in early in the morning in order to prevent disruption to mall operations and patrons.
The mall also had a strict noise poilcy and didn't allow commotion during business hours. This meant that all demolitions had to be done late night or early in the morning.
