Centre for Innovation in Manufacturing - Technology Access Centre

Our Special Services Group at Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) has officially broken ground on the expansion of its Centre for Innovation in Manufacturing – Technology Access Centre (CIM-TAC). The upgraded facility will grow from 15,000 to 25,000 sq. ft., enhancing the post-secondary's ability to drive innovation, support industry, and train the next generation of skilled professionals powering Alberta’s evolving economy.

The expansion is designed to bridge the gap between applied research and real-world industry needs. It will give companies access to advanced manufacturing services, leading-edge prototyping equipment, and a multidisciplinary team of faculty, staff, and students.

By 2030, the facility is expected to support:

  • 450 post-secondary students annually through hands-on learning

  • Over 2,000 students through workshops and training

  • More than 500 junior and senior high school students through dual credit programs

Once completed, the expanded campus building will serve a broad range of sectors, including energy innovation, transportation and aviation, agriculture and ag-tech, and medical device development. It will also feature new classrooms, work-integrated learning opportunities, and a growing inventory of specialized equipment such as 3D printers, CNC mills, waterjet cutters, and tensile testers.
