Aspen Beach Provincial Park

This multi-year project included the upgrade of day use and campground facilities and infrastructure at this popular provincial park in Alberta. This project included sustainable efforts when working in and around wetlands, and also included self performing by the local Chandos team. The team self performed the wood reinforcing on the boardwalk, selective demolition, and the wood perimeters around tent sites.

When phase 2 and 3 of this project were done our team completed:

  • New boardwalk and bridge
  • Refurbishment of campgrounds and campground loops along with the creation of additional campsites.
  • Dredging and placement of new boat launch pads
  • Completion of a new dump station, and trail refurbishment
  • Construction of a new shower facility and refurbishment of others for the campground
  • Erection of precast vault washrooms
  • Upgrades to three Lakeview Campground group use shelters

Working in a provincial park near existing wetlands meant our team prioritized protecting the existing vegetation to minimize any potential negative impacts. This was done by completing an assessment of the wetlands, their vegetation and understanding the ecological significance and characteristics. We then went through the process to mark all exclusion zones to prevent accidental damage during construction. Installing barriers and fences to prevent soil erosion and sedimentation from harming wetland vegetation during ongoing construction. Our team researched and selected equipment with reduced ground pressure to minimize disturbance and protect nearby plant root systems. Lastly our team completed regular monitoring and promptly addressed any stress or damage to ensure the wetland's long-term health.
