Chandos was part of two separate integrated project delivery (IPD) teams, designing and constructing three new buildings and a research centre at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) Ltd.’s Chalk River Laboratories facility. The new buildings are non-nuclear and include a business hub, main gate, and logistics warehouse as well as a support facility.
These buildings add reliable, purpose‑built space to the existing Chalk River Laboratories campus, housing essential business functions and supporting day‑to‑day operations. The business hub creates space for approximately 400 employees and contributes to productivity, morale, and site safety. Support facilities and amenities include a data centre, library, central records, health and wellness centre, flexible auditorium, and shared meeting spaces.

The Advanced Nuclear Materials Research Center (ANMRC) is the backbone of CNL’s research and development infrastructure and is essential to the delivery of nuclear science and technology programs. This project houses a modern laboratory and research complex and is the largest active research facility in Canada, allowing for world-class research in nuclear energy and environmental research.

Construction of these projects formed part of the planned 10-year transformation at the Chalk River site, including the revitalization of infrastructure, decommissioning of aging buildings, and investment in a world-class research facility. The support facility enables CNL to provide uninterrupted preventive and corrective maintenance support, improve maintenance and work management, increase staff productivity and efficiency, and reduce the risk of equipment failure. The state-of-the-art research centre transforms the site and serves as a state‑of‑the‑art laboratory that advances research and knowledge. This investment in infrastructure renewal supports the delivery of world‑class nuclear science and technology offerings for years to come.
