Brooks Greenhouses are considered to be the most technologically advanced greenhouses in North America and the first LEED Gold Certified Greenhouses in Canada. The greenhouses feature a 40,000 sq. ft. production greenhouse, an 8,000 sq. ft. header house, and a 12,000 sq. ft. research greenhouse.
An existing greenhouse and header house was first demolished which included asbestos abatement procedures. We then proceeded to construct the three new buildings and preformed extensive activities related to power line relocation and utility site work. The research wing of the facility features containment laboratories which required strict control of construction procedures to build so that they met their functional use.
Chandos worked closely with the client and design team throughout the project, with particular attention to the research wing of the facility, where containment laboratories required strict control of construction procedures. This collaborative approach supported the project vision while addressing the technical and operational needs of the space.
Construction followed the demolition of aging greenhouse and header house structures, including asbestos abatement, and involved extensive site preparation. Power line relocation and utility work were completed to support the expanded facility and new building configuration.
The completed greenhouse integrates advanced systems to support efficient and controlled growing conditions and provides flexible space capable of adapting to evolving research requirements. Sustainability features incorporated throughout the facility support long‑term performance and operational efficiency, reinforcing its role as a leading research and production environment.
