Blatchford Fire Station #8, which is the City of Edmonton’s newest fire station, began operations in fall 2026. This approximately 16,146 square foot facility features three drive-through apparatus bays, allowing fire trucks to move directly through the space.
Adjacent to these bays is a functional program area, including a gym, dormitories, kitchen, crew room, as well as captain’s offices, gender-neutral change rooms, storage lockers, and an IT room.
The second half of the apparatus bays accommodates a mechanical mezzanine on the second floor, consisting of electrical system, specialized duty gear and water meter rooms, along with a workshop.

Two separate mechanical rooms are located in this space. One supports the equipment associated with the facility’s connection to the Blatchford District Energy Sharing System, which provides environmentally friendly heating, cooling and hot water. The other room supports traditional heating and cooling equipment.
Along with being connected to the District Energy Sharing System, this emissions-neutral building uses a rooftop solar photovoltaic array and various high-efficiency building systems to conserve energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As a result, the facility is anticipated to achieve LEED Silver but may achieve LEED Gold certification.
Additionally, the fire station design incorporated a high-performance building envelope system and Low Impact Development.
