Social procurement is about using construction to create broader community benefits. By intentionally choosing products, services, and partnerships that support positive social and environmental outcomes, projects can strengthen local economies and contribute to long-term community wellbeing. We believe that when a project is built with social value in mind, everyone benefits—clients, communities, and future generations.
HOW WE WORK
We collaborate with Indigenous Nations, community organizations, social enterprises, and diverse suppliers to ensure that each project contributes meaningfully to the place it serves. This includes creating employment and training opportunities, supporting local businesses, and sourcing from partners who share a commitment to social and environmental responsibility. Our role is to help clients understand the opportunities available, identify meaningful pathways for impact, and integrate them into the project in a practical, measurable way.
Shared value
Social procurement creates shared value by generating real, lasting benefits for individuals, families, and communities, while helping clients meet their project goals. Partnering in this way brings new perspectives, builds stronger relationships, and strengthens the broader ecosystem around a project.
Diversity and inclusion
We believe that including under-represented groups and supporting a diverse workforce leads to stronger outcomes and a more resilient industry. By working with diverse suppliers and community partners, we help open doors to economic participation and support a more inclusive construction sector.
FEATURED PROJECTS
BC Housing 1st and Clark
The team on this IPD project has committed to spend at least 10 per cent of the project’s value through social procurement, partnering with social enterprises, buying from diverse-owned businesses, and hiring diverse and local talent.
Maple Grove Elementary Replacement School
This project involved the construction of a two-storey elementary school located west of the existing, occupied school. A significant portion of the labour was sourced through EMBERS, a local social enterprise.
Norquest College Heritage Tower Restack and Renewal
During this project we partnered with Norquest and the Alberta Indigenous Construction Career Centre (AICCC), to practice social procurement and hire indigenous students to help with the work required for this project.
