This is one of the first municipally funded Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) projects in Canada and is the first IPD project with the City of Red Deer.
The buildings were constructed from a grade beam and slab-on-grade foundation with precast exterior and interior walls. A fitness room, crews’ quarters, training tower, training room, and training components were major portions of the amenities with apparatus bays for service to the community.
Through collaboration, we were able to provide additional wish-list items to the client without increasing the original budget. These included operational items like how the overhead doors work, upgrades to doors and flooring, exercise room equipment, and additional functionality to training equipment.
We also analyzed spaces and optimized their use during construction; provided quality in HVAC and landscaping; used local talent for the art projects; and assessed how the building interacted with the surrounding environment to avoid disruption.
